Rainforest Pharmacy Chanca Piedra Liquid Extract 4 fl oz Kidney Support
Chanca Piedra is a small herbaceous plant widely used for centuries by the Indians of South America. Its main use by native healers is for the treatment of kidney stones and gallstones. Chanca Piedra extract is concentrated to provide strength, ease of digestion, and rapid assimilation. It is an immune system stimulator. It helps eliminate mucous and foreign particles from the kidney, gallbladder, and urinary tracts. Chanca Piedra also increases bile production, soothes the liver, and aids in minimizing calcification. Research has indicated Chanca Piedra can help relax the urinary and bile tracts. As a result, foreign particles are able to pass through the body much easier. Research in the 1990s also demonstrated it can help reduce the formation of obstructions in the gallbladder and kidney for optimal flow of internal fluids. Chanca Piedra also acts as a diuretic and laxative and may help the body rid itself of toxins. A 2002 study in India found that it also helps increase bile secretion of the liver. Extra bile helps the body digest foods and liquids more effectively so you can obtain greater nutrition and also eliminate waste more efficiently.

Excellent for kidney stones and gout!Feb 16, 2012
By Gary AL.
My husband started getting kidney stones in early 90's. Each time, he would get pain on and off for two weeks and then excruciating pain for 3 days before finally expelling the stone. Then around 2005, I learned about Chanca Piedra by researching the Internet (I love the Internet!). What a difference! He still had discomfort, but not awful pain and usually passed it in 3 days, only.
We were buying the Raintree brand, usually from Amazon when available. He ran out, so I looked for it on Amazon. I thought I found it for an amazing price, but when I received it, I was dismayed that it was a different brand! I didn't notice, because the label is similar and Rainforest was close to Raintree. (I know ... I'm an idiot.) We were going to return it unopened, because we didn't want him to start with a kidney stone and only have a product that might not work. Well, coincidentally, he got the beginning symptoms the next day, so he opened it and took some. The pain left quickly and he went to sleep. A week later, he had another twinge. He took some more. A few days later he had trouble peeing and suddenly out pops a very large stone! It was a complete surprise since he had not been having pain.
So, we are sold on this brand. You get twice as much for a little less than half the price and it seems to work better. You should know, however, that this does have alcohol whereas Raintree does not. Many tinctures use alcohol as it often is a more potent delivery system. If you object to it, Raintree will work just fine.
Chanca Piedra does not taste good. Because of the alcohol, this one is even a little worse tasting, but my husband is sold on it.
By the way, since we were advised by Raintree to take 30 drops (about 1/4 tsp. In a glass of water 3 - 4 times a day during active kidney stones, he took 30 drops at a time with this also (more than suggested on the label). However, he only did this once in a day with this Rainforest product since it worked so well.
By the way, you should also take magnesium citrate every day. It reduces the number of kidney stones and smooths the surface (instead of jagged edges).
So, if you get kidney stones, buy this! I almost forgot, Chanca Piedra also works really well for Gout! Take it as soon as you get the Gout symptoms and it might be gone by the next day. It has worked for my husband with 3 Gout episodes.
Hope my review helps.
If you get kidney stones, buy this.

WORKS!Dec 19, 2012
I dont' write reviews but I had to make an exception for this product. I had a 7mm stone in my left kidney that sent me to the emergency room. Two years ago had one in the right kidney. The pain was really really bad. They told me at the hospital they didn't think I could pass it. They gave me some meds and a cat scan to the tune of $8,600 hundreds dollars! I went a urologist and had x-rays done and he told me the same thing and was ready to do surgery. I did everything I could do to pass this stone. Lemon juice, cider vinegar, olive oil, special exercise you name it. Nothing was working. I month later I found this product. After 3 and a half days of taking this I passed the stone! I passed it on a Monday and my surgery was set for that Wednesday. All I can say is it worked for me. Try it.

Everyone with Gallbladder Problems Should Become Acquainted with Chanca PiedraNov 05, 2013
By Amazon Customer
I bought this a while back and didn't really use it until recently. I've been having gallbladder problems for the last year and a half and have been working with a doctor of chinese medicine to help with the problem. I actually bought chanca piedra along with a few other herbs that are known to help gallbladder issues (including 'gold coin grass' and a chiniese herb called 'Li Dan Pai Shi Pian'). I was also taking milk thistle and at one point was taking dandelion root as well. Another chinese herb that's pretty good for this is 'Chai Hu Shu Gan Wan'.
Anyway for a year i was on a variety of herbs and about a month or so ago i felt like these herbs had reached their limits. They helped significantly from when the problem originally started but i felt like they had reached their limits because i would take them, get relief and as soon as the herb wears off i would be back where i started. I literally considered calling my doctor to see about having my gallbladder removed because i could no longer handle how disruptive this problem has been to my life over the last year and a half (can't eat this, can't eat that, can't have a beer, blah blah). I just couldn't take it anymore.
I decided since i had chanca piedra sitting at home, i would stop using all other herbs and just try chanca piedra. Within the first 2 days i noticed just a vast difference. Since i live in NYC, i decided to see if i could find the leaves to make into a tea - since living in nyc, you can damn near find anything in this city. I believe in the power of natural herbs and i always knew that tea form is usually the best delivery system. It took me calling at least 10 different places in NYC before i found a place that had the loose tea form. Anyway, as of this writing it has been about 3 weeks and i feel i'm almost 75% back to normal before this whole problem started over a year ago. I had a piece of chocolate today and NOTHING HAPPENED. I ate eggs benedict last week and NOTHING HAPPENED!!! few months ago my gallbladder would have had a violent reaction to those two foods.
I still feel a little twinge here and there but i feel that i'm well on my way back to normal because of Chanca Piedra. I still use the extract form but if you can find the tea, use it - i was on the road for my job recently and took the bottle with me. i didn't want to bring the loose tea for obvious reasons. I also found that when you're boiling the tea, it's best to keep the pot covered so you get a stronger version of the tea (some of the nutrients won't evaporate when the pot is open). I usually let it boil for a few minutes.
I'm now using it once before i go to sleep at nights instead of morning and night. I've been drinking this tea my mom got me from Jamaica that's good for liver issues. Helps with bile flow. It's called 'Cerasee' (VERY bitter tho but AWESOME!!!!). i find that these two herbs make a powerful one-two punch.
Everyone with gallbladder problems should know about these herbs.
EDIT (08/09/2014): I should point out that i don't use cerasse anymore. Also, most of the chinese herbs i mentioned above i don't use anymore. I rarely even use Chanca Piedra now. After a while, i felt like the herbs above had sort of reached their limits. So i went ahead and added the herb 'Stone Free' which you can find on Amazon. Initially when i started taking it, i started getting some discomfort right after i took them. Long story short, i did some further research and started taking Lecithin with the stone free along with milk thistle. I've found that i have to get a good quality milk thistle though. Once i added the Lecithin, the discomfort was gone. Lecithin is needed to make good quality bile so that makes total sense.
In chinese medicine they say when you have gallbladder problems you have excessive heat in the liver. I found an amazing chinese herb called Gardenia Fruit that clears heat in the body. I started taking it and my symtoms started to improve even further. Also, i was having problems with Insomnia and my doctor told me about an herb called Jujube which i bought. It helped immensely with my insomnia but come to find out, it's also used to reverse Liver disease. So Inadvertently, it started to improve my gallbladder function MASSIVELY as well.
At this point i don't take any Chanca Piedra. I haven't even used 'Stone Free' in the last 3 weeks. If i feel any bit of discomfort in my gallbladder region, i take some Gardenia Fruit capsules to clear the heat and that tends to relieve the problem. Also, before bed at night I've been taking the Jujube and that helps with the Insomnia AND gallbladder function. I took 2 Lecithin capsules and milk thistle this morning but that was more maintenance.
For the last few days, I've been eating Omelettes for breakfast. Anyone with gallbladder problems knows that eating eggs is one of the worst offenders. 8 months ago, i couldn't go anywhere near eggs. Couldn't even drink a beer - i'd be in so much pain for the next few days. For the last few weekends, i've gone out with friends drinking craft beers and have been having absolutely no problems at all. My gallbladder functions have improved by 90%. As i said, if i feel any discomfort, i take Gardenia Fruit capsules and have been taking the Jujube. I've seen an unbelievable world of difference with Chinese Medicine and Chanca Piedra.
My advice, do your research and don't remove your gallbladder unless you literally have to. There's amazing herbs out there that can be used to reverse liver diseases. The liver and the gallbladder are interconnected so if you're reversing liver disease, you're reversing gallbladder diseases. Also, what i've found is that it's a slower healing process for liver/gallbladder issues but it can be done. Don't be in a hurry to just cut it out. My western doctor told me that 30% of people who remove their gallbladders still have problems after removal and i asked him why. He told me they didn't have an explanation. 30% is a high number and i did not want to take that risk unless i literally had NO OTHER alternative.
My advice, Start with Chanca Piedra, Lecithin, Milk Thistle, Gardenia Fruit and Jujube. I wish i had found out about Gardenia and Jujube earlier. Take the Jujube at night though. It makes you sleepy.
Another advice: find a reputable chinese herbal pharmacy to get these herbs from. I've seen companies online charging $70 for Gardenia Fruit extract. That's ridiculous. I pay $12 for the same amount at one of the many chinese herbal pharmacies here in NYC (Chinatown). If you're in a big city, there should be an Asian community there with herbal stores. Call a few of them. They usually will have Gardenia and Jujube extracts. I did a search for both herbs here on Amazon and couldn't really find one that i'd buy.
I hope this review helps a few of you guys out there - i know what you guys are going through. I wanted everyone to know all the herbs I've used. I know by giving all the information, somebody else will benefit from this with everything i've learned. Best of luck guys!!!
